Edward David Sims Jr.

Edward David Sims Jr., 75, of Holly Springs, died April 13, 2024, at Mississippi Care Center of Alcorn County in Corinth. He was a member of Yarbrough Chapel CME Church where he served as church deacon, Sunday school teacher, layman and member of church choir. He was retired from the U.S. Army and the Mississippi Department of Transportation.

Visitation will be held at J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home on April 19 from 3-6 p.m. and on April 20 at Yarbrough Chapel CME Church from 10-10:55 a.m. with services at 11 a.m. Pastor Tony Wilkins will officiate. Burial will be in West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery in Memphis, Tenn.

He leaves his daughters, Chearese Sims Seals of Michigan City, Sirlinda Luellen of Olive Branch; sons, Yusef Berkley of Nesbit, Richard Jackson of Holly Springs; sisters, Tine Peyton of Nashville, Tenn., Terry Smith of Aurora, Ill., Juanita Barksdale, Jackie Faulkner, both of Holly Springs, Bennette Norrington of Kansas City, Mo., Patris Garrett of Memphis; brothers, Freddie Sims, Bobby Sims, Kennedy Sims, Carl Sims, Fred Bell, all of Holly Springs; five grandchildren and one great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Verlene Luellen Sims; daughter, Carolyn Denise Sims; siblings, Sidney Sims, Tyrone Sims and Maurice Sims.
