Dr. Charles T. Ames III of Jackson, TN, died peacefully in his home on December 9 after only 3 weeks of infirmity at the age of 83. Charles is survived by his wife of 59 years Marilynn; his children, Paige Ames of London, England, Paula Ames Ligon and John of Franklin, TN, Chase Ames of Jackson, TN, and Anna Ames Finkenzeller and Stefan of Seattle, WA; close family friend, Dr. Michelle Baldwin; and his 4 grandchildren, Margaret and Catherine Ligon, Henry Ames and Vera Finkenzeller. He was predeceased by his parents, Charles T. Ames Jr. and Pauline English Ames of Holly Spring, MS. Charles donated his body to Union University.

Charles obtained all the necessary credits in 3 years from Southwestern at Memphis, now Rhodes College, then transferred to UT Dental School. He met the love of his life, Marilynn, at Southwestern and they married on July 2, 1961. Charles served in the U.S. Navy for 2 years and was stationed in Camp Lejuene, NC, a U.S. Marine base.

They returned to Holly Springs for a few years where Charles opened a private practice. In 1968, Charles and his family moved to Jackson, TN, and joined Dental Associates until he retired in 1992.

Charles was a committed member, deacon, and elder at The First Presbyterian Church. He lived out his faith every day and left a legacy of love, kindness, grace, and generosity to people of all walks of life.

A scratch golfer for decades and still shooting his age at 80, he will be well remembered at the Jackson Golf and Country Club and around the gin table as the `The Great Doc.' He had a wonderful sense of humor and will be missed by so many.

Due to the pandemic and his body donation to Union University, no further plans have been made for a memorial service at this time. You are welcome to join the Ames family with their donations in his honor to the Hospice of West TN at 804 Hwy. 45 Bypass, Ste. 100, Jackson, TN 38305 or the Salvation Army at 125 Allen Ave., Jackson, TN 38301 or a charity of your choice.
