Claude Lee Vinson Sr.

Claude Lee Vinson Sr., 81, of Holly Springs, died July 17, 2018, at the Mississippi State Veterans’ Home in Oxford. The widower of Cornelia O’Neill Vinson, he was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, a retired U.S. Air Force veteran, and a member of the Knights of Columbus, where he served as Grand Knight for several years. He was a member of the first graduating class at St. Mary’s High School, a graduate of Rust College and received his master’s degree at Ole Miss. He retired from the military police, U.S. Air Force, in 1976. He was the sports editor for The South Reporter for 22 years.

Visitation will be July 23 from 1-5 p.m. at the funeral home and at St. Joseph Catholic Church from 6-8 p.m.; and on July 24 at Holy Family from 9-9:55 a.m.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. on July 24 at Holy Family School Auditorium. Burial will be in Cottrell Memorial Garden. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He leaves four children, Veronica A. Vinson, Claude L. Vinson Jr., Christopher M. Vinson, all of Memphis, Tenn. Mark M. Vinson of Atlanta, Ga.; a sister, Rolinda B. Vinson-Hopkins of Cleveland, Ohio; 14 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mia M. Jones; a sister, Cleopatra Vinson; and seven brothers, James Otis Vinson, Robert Paul Vinson, William Clareview Vinson, Harvest Quincy Vinson, Edward Lavert Vinson, Taylor Lee Vinson and Joe Louis Vinson.
