Bonnie Jo Childress

10-5-2018

Age 72, she passed away peacefully in Hemet, Calif., after an extended battle with lung cancer.

Bonnie was a native Memphian and was a graduate of Oakhaven High School (class of 1963), after which she moved to Torrance, Calif., where she married and raised a family. In 1990 she moved back to Memphis and met her husband of 24 years, Kenneth Childress. They traveled together all over the South before moving back to Calif. to be closer to her 2 sons, David (Michelle) Goode, Michael Goode and her grandchildren.

She was a very accomplished miniature artist and collector who traveled extensively to craft shows around Calif., and Tenn. Her family and many friends were the highlight of her life and we are very blessed for having had her in our lives.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her mother, Jimmie Sparks Tomlinson; Hubert Tomlinson; her sister, Katrina (Walter) Priddy. She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Kenneth Childress; sons, David and Michael; sister, Creed (Tom) Holland; granddaughter, Simone (Nick) Carpio; grandsons, Dylan Goode and Jalen Bond; step-daughter, Angela (Brooks) Bond; step-son, Alan (Jo) Childress; and extended family including an aunt and multiple cousins, nieces and nephews.

A memorial will be held in Torrance, Calif., on Nov. 10, 2018, at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that you donate to your favorite charity or call the American Cancer Society at 800-227-2345 to donate to lung cancer research in Bonnie’s memory - c/o Creed Holland, P.O. Box 223, Red Banks, MS 38661.
