Bessie Lee Smith McCain

Bessie Lee Smith McCain, 76, of Holly Springs, formerly of Memphis, Tenn., died October 16, 2025, at Holly Springs Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. She was a member of Anderson Chapel CME Church and Greater Middle Baptist Church in Memphis. She was a U.S. Army veteran and a retired educator.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Oct. 22 at Anderson Chapel CME Church. Rev. Dr. Leon C. Moore officiated. Burial was in Cottrell Memorial Garden. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

She leaves her husband, George Ervin McCain Sr. of Memphis; son, George E. McCain Jr. of Oklahoma City, Okla.; sisters, Valerie Smith of Alexandria, Va., Barbara S. Anderson of Holly Springs, Sharon S. Travis of Jackson; and a granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her sons, Omari McCain and Gamal McCain; siblings, Celestine Smith, Deborah Marie Smith and Napoleon Smith.
