Bernice E. Martin

Bernice E. Martin, 93, of Holly Springs, died Feb. 1, 2018, at Pruitt Health-Peake in Macon, Ga. She was the widow of Goodwin Hughes Martin. She and her late husband retired from the restaurant business and an ice cream company in 1974 and moved to Holly Springs. She was a Sunday school teacher, pianist, and  a stewardess. She was a long-time member of Carter Metropolitian CME Church and then Anderson Chapel CME Church. She was active in clubs and museum committees in Marshall County.

Visitation will  be held at the funeral home on Feb, 8 from 1-6 p.m., and at the church on Feb. 9  from 9-9:55 a.m.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Feb. 9 at Anderson Chapel CME Church in Holly Springs, Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery. Rev. William S. Banks will officiate. J.F. Brittenum and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She leaves two daughters, Shirley Bailey of Memphis, Tenn., Shelia Walker of Macon, Ga.; a stepson, Robert Martin; a sister,  Maxine Smith of Detroit, Mich.; two brothers, Tony Nelson of Florida, Herman Nelson of Detroit; a sister, Maxine Smith of Detroit; eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
