Alva Beck

Alva Beck was born on April 20, 1948, the youngest child of the late Eric and Dora Beck in Holly Springs, MS. On February 25, 2023, he transitioned into the arms of our Heavenly Father at Alliance Hospital in Holly Springs.

Alva graduated from Holly Springs High School, later earning a Bachelor of Science degree from Rust College. After graduating from Rust College, Alva moved to St. Paul, Minnesota and then to various locations throughout the United States as he progressed in his career in insurance and finance. Alva eventually settled with his family in Cincinnati, Ohio where he worked for Kroger for many years until he returned home to Holly Springs, MS to care for his mother before her passing.

Alva was a member of Asbury Methodist Church and accepted Christ into his life at an early age. His love for Christ blossomed into leadership in the church over many years. His church leadership included serving as a Sunday School teacher, Chairman of the Finance Committee, a member of the Board of Trustees and the creator and organizer of the Adult Recreation Ministry (ARM).

Alva was a firm believer in leadership and his service to the community extended beyond the walls of the church. For over a decade, Alva served as a board member for the Industrial Development Authority (IDA), including serving as Board President and Vice Chair for the IDA. Alva was also a lifelong member and held various leadership roles with the Marshall County National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and was an Executive Committee Member for the Marshall County Democratic Party.

Alva is known and loved by many. He was a bright, witty and adventurous soul. He loved to entertain and travel to lands both near and far, his favorite destinations being Marrakech, Morocco, San Pedro, Belize and New Orleans, Louisiana.

In 2013, Alva married his longtime friend and companion, Emma Miller Beck, and they traveled the world and went on many adventures until her passing.

Services to celebrate Alva's life will be held on Saturday, March 4, at Asbury Methodist Church in Holly Springs, Mississippi at 11 a.m. with a visitation beginning at 9 a.m. The services will be officiated by Reverend Zachary Beasley and Reverend Kenneth Cunningham. Serenity Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Alva leaves to mourn his homegoing, four children Dominique Samari, Anthony Beck (Sarah) Khadija Z. Craine, Audrey Okhiria; sister-in-law, Mamie Beck; nieces, Marie Fischer and Danita Beck-Wickwire and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Miller-Beck; his parents, Eric and Dora Beck; and his brothers, Eric and Everett Beck.
