Allen Ross Klomps, 92, of Holly Springs, MS, died June 11, 2019, in Minneapolis, Minn. He lived a long and full life. He was born on October 24, 1926, in Minnesota, son of Albert Klomps and Minnie Hellickson Klomps. He is survived by his sisters Marge Jerpbak, Joanne Rone, and Emily Libra; daughter and son-inlaw, Ginny and Mervin Wallace; son and daughter-in-law, Steve Klomps and Diane Moore; daughter, Ellen Klomps; grandsons, Derek and Marcus Wallace; niece, Chris Jerpbak; and nephews, Dave Rone, Ross, Paul, and Kent Libra, and John Jerpbak; their children and grandchildren. He married the love of his life, Louise Beck Klomps, in 1952.

Al was a World War II Veteran, enlisting at the age of 17. After the war ended, he completed his education at the University of Minnesota. Al began his engineering career at Sunbeam Corporation in Chicago. He moved to Holly Springs in 1977 as manager of the Sunbeam plant.

He had a strong desire to serve others and make a difference. Al and Louise became active in the First United Methodist Church when they moved to Holly Springs. He did prison ministry for a number of years and in recent years recorded the church services and delivered DVDs to shutins. He also created notecards of the church's stained-glass windows. Al had many hobbies. He was an avid golfer and angler. He was proud of becoming a certified Master Naturalist through the Mississippi Audubon Society. He built and maintained 60 bluebird houses at Kirkwood National Golf Course. Perhaps his latest favorite activity was the art and craft of making wine, from growing the grapes to the finished product. He shared many bottles with friends, neighbors, and visiting golfers. He even presented a program on winemaking last fall as part of the Holly Springs artists series in October 2018.

A memorial service will be held in Holly Springs at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to First United Methodist Church of Holly Springs or Strawberry Plains Audubon Center.
