Aetna Mae Condon Booth
Funeral Mass for Aetna Mae Condon Booth, RPH of Leland was held at 11 a.m., Monday, March 13, at St. James Catholic Church, Leland. She died in the early hours of Wednesday, March 8, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford after a lengthy illness. Burial was in Leland-Stoneville Cemetery under the direction of Boone Funeral Home, Leland.
The daughter of William James Condon, Sr., and Atna Abdo Condon of Leland, Aetna Mae was a graduate of Leland High School. An avid athlete, she lettered in basketball, tennis, and track, and was head cheerleader. Bright and vivacious, Aetna Mae was class valedictorian and a member of the homecoming court. She attended MSCW for one year and transferred to the University of Mississippi, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy.
Aetna Mae was a dedicated and proficient community pharmacist, as devoted to her patients as they were to her. She served as a teacher, guide, and mentor for countless pharmacy students and technicians, and was an exemplary proponent for her profession and patients alike. She remained a practicing pharmacist until her death.
Aetna Mae was a lifelong dedicated member of the Roman Catholic Church, and she was a member of the Ladies Altar Society and served as a Eucharistic Minister.
Her family was her greatest passion and source of pride. She was married to Dr. William Harper Booth, Jr., for 63 years, and their 3 sons, David, James, and Patrick, filled her life with joy. Aetna Mae adored her 8 grandchildren, and she and her sister, Ellen Ann Condon Johnson, shared an incredibly close and special relationship that they both cherished.
Aetna Mae had a zest for life, with a quick wit and a dazzling smile. She and her husband enjoyed travelling, and she was a marvelous dancer. An accomplished cook, her fried chicken was generally considered to be the best that anyone had ever tasted. Aetna Mae was a steadfast friend and advocate, with an approachable ear, a solid shoulder, and a renowned respect for confidentiality. Her tenacity and determination were attributes for which she was widely known and admired, and her love for her family and friends was deep and unconditional. Aetna Mae had one desire in life, to love and serve others, and all who knew her would agree that she accomplished her aim.
Aetna Mae was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, William James Condon, Jr., and her beloved husband, and is survived by her sons, David Condon Booth (Nancy), James Stuart Booth (Scarlett), and Dr. Patrick Kenneth Booth (Anne), 8 grandchildren, her sister, her loving nieces and nephews, and numerous friends.
