Indians run past Blue Devils

Reginald Davis is looking for resilience from his Byhalia football team, and he certainly saw signs of that in a Friday night win at home.

The Indians stalled on an early drive into Ashland territory, but they bounced right back. The momentum stayed on their side as they rolled past the Blue Devils 30-6.

“We’re playing through adversity, and I like that,” the head coach said. “We’re getting through Monday through Thursday practices and coming out and performing and doing what we’re coached to do.”

David Lewis had a pair of touchdown runs for Byhalia, one covering 15 yards and the other 20. Christopher Lesueur scored on a 33-yard carry, and Brayson Roberts had a 20-yard touchdown reception. The Indians converted three of four 2-point conversion tries.

Davis liked the work of his offensive line, which he called the team’s “calling card.” Two centers were injured for the game, so he particularly complemented the play of Jatari Rogers, who moved from guard to center. Offensively, Davis added that Lesueur is a talented newcomer who is a threat every time he touches the football.

“We are starting to gel and come together after replacing our entire backfield from last season,” he said.

Davis said his defensive line has “come to life,” noting the contributions of Carson Dean and Roberts.

The Indians (2-1) make a short bus ride east in Marshall County to face Potts Camp (1-1) on Friday. Homecoming festivities, postponed because of weather, will be held Sept. 25, when Byhalia hosts rival Holly Springs.

Ashland (0-3) travels to Hatley (2-1) on Friday.
