Lady Patriots softball gets district road win
The Marshall Academy Lady Patriots used a seven-run seventh inning to pull away from District 1-3A opponent the Lee Academy Fillies Tuesday, Sept. 1, on the road in Clarksdale.
The Fillies, with MA leading 5-1, scored three in the bottom of the sixth to get within one. Then Marshall’s huge seventh secured a 12-4 win.
“In the top of the seventh, we put some great bats together,” said Lady Patriots head coach Jamie Rappa. Bailey Thomas started the offensive burst with a solo home run to left field. Also connecting at the plate in the seventh were Olivia Smith, Hadley Jenkins, Mara Smith, Maddie Hudson and Kyleigh Milliorn. Azley Ashby, Aubrey Brigance and KayLynn Coey also reached base in the big inning.
Marshall enjoyed a 12-hit game, led by Hudson and Thomas with three each. Hudson drove in three runs. Milliorn added two RBIs. Hudson stole four bases in the eight-run victory.
Kendall Matthews went the seven-inning distance from the circle and earned the pitching win. She struck out 11, walked one and gave up five hits.
The Lady Patriots (13-41) hosted Bayou Academy on Sept. 8. They play in the Brookhaven Tournament Saturday, Sept. 12, against Adams County Christian and Silliman Institute. Next Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 14-15, they hit the road for district action against North Delta School and West Memphis Christian.
