Smoke Signals
Our hearts are collectively broken for the family who lost their two small children in the accident on I-22. Prayers that the father recovers and prayers for the mother as she has lost her precious babies. Also, prayers for the truck driver, who though not physically injured, will relive the accident for many years. I am always concerned when I see someone on the side of a busy road. There have been so many accidents while trying to change a tire or wait for help when your car breaks down.
The Nepal and India tragedy is unimaginable. We may never know the total loss of life as entire communities were washed away in minutes. There was no warning and little opportunity to run even if they were physically able and almost no place to run. Possibly thousands are dead or missing. Prayers for the rescuers as they recover the bodies and the living. I’ve read that some bodies were found 250 miles downstream.
I, along with many of you, mourn the loss of our beloved Pigeon Roost News. It has been a mainstay in many lives for so many years. It made Wednesday’s mail worth going to the mailbox for. Times are changing and costs for publishing are rising rapidly. Subscribe to The South Reporter to help keep abreast of local happenings.
On Wednesday I made a somewhat unscheduled drive to Georgia to become Olivia’s Uber driver. She was the only sixth grader to make the tennis team for middle school and with her already heavy softball schedule, she is a busy girl. As her dad is a football coach, he doesn’t have much time to help with transportation this time of year and mom has her and her brother to get to activities and attend the activities herself. Grandma can pick Olivia up from tennis practice and take her to softball practice, pitching lessons, batting lessons, or games. Then there is dinner, homework, and chores if there is time!
I had a few adventures along the way. I had to fit in an unexpected doctor’s appointment at 7:45 a.m., wait for prescriptions, do a bit of work at the shop, fill up with gas and send my granddaughter in law to the ER where they ruled out a stroke but not sure exactly what is going on. She is a young mother of three active boys and can certainly use your thoughts and prayers as she and her family navigate this new road.
I am grateful for those who check on my cat and fill my hummingbird feeders as I have about 35 birds right now. I made up several gallons of feed but I’m sure more will be needed. I programmed my GPS to avoid Atlanta as I hate driving though there. As I left Birmingham, I realized it had rerouted me through Atlanta. I stopped along the way once again to reroute around Atlanta. I saw many roads and small communities of Georgia I had never seen before. I had not planned to drive straight through as I have learned it exhaust my body and mind completely, but with the reroute I wasn’t sure if I would even pass through or near where I normally would stop and since I had my dog with me it had to be dog friendly. Well, we drove straight through and arrived around 11:30 p.m. Both of us were very tired but have caught up on our rest. He traveled well as I bought him a doggie car seat so he could watch out the window. Can you say “rotten?”
