Suspects sought following shooting

Authorities on Tuesday, Aug. 25, continued their search for a suspected gunman following a shooting on Thursday afternoon, Aug. 20, that left a 37-year-old Holly Springs man seriously injured, while also attempting to locate a second suspect who escaped custody in a related incident nearby.

Officers with the Holly Springs Police Department responded at approximately 2:44 p.m. To a residence at 655 Salem Avenue in reference to a shooting. Investigators with the Marshall County Sheriff ‘s Department arrived shortly after 3 p.m. To assist.

Police Chief Grant Glover said that, upon arrival, he discovered the victim, identified as 37-yearold Jonathan Downs, lying in the doorway of the residence. Downs, who did not live at the home and was visiting friends, sustained gunshot wounds to the abdomen and lower leg.

Emergency first aid was rendered at the scene before paramedics transported Downs to Regional One Health in Memphis, Tennessee, for trauma care.

During the preliminary investigation, officers recovered approximately five spent shell casings in the driveway. Marshall County Sheriff Kenny Dickerson stated that investigators believe the shooting stemmed from an ongoing dispute over property ownership.

An eyewitness at the scene identified the suspected shooter as Quinton McLemore, age 35, of Holly Springs. Authorities believe McLemore fled the scene on foot and remains at large. Warrants have been issued charging McLemore with attempted first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

In a separate incident occurring around the same time, authorities took 24-year-old Collin Miller, of 335 Sunset Ridge Road in Rossville, Tennessee, into custody for possession of an illegal weapon. Miller subsequently escaped from law enforcement custody and is also currently at large.
