Holly Springs man charged with murder

A Holly Springs man remained behind bars without bond following a fatal afternoon shooting in Coldwater on Wednesday, July 29.

Deputies with the Tate County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting victim in the 1800 block of Bett-Thyatira Road at approximately 12:30 p.m.

Upon arrival, law enforcement officers located a victim dead at the scene. Authorities did not immediately release the identity of the deceased.

Investigators detained Lloyd Randall Hughes, 69, of Holly Springs, at the site of the shooting. Following a preliminary investigation, officers arrested Hughes and charged him with first-degree murder.

Hughes was taken to the Tate County Jail in Senatobia, where he was held without bond.

Officials noted that the investigation remains active and ongoing, and no additional details regarding a motive or circumstances surrounding the shooting were immediately available.
