Smoke Signals

Scams, sports, and summer travels

I am writing to you from Georgia after a very long 11-hour drive including driving through Atlanta rush hour traffic. I was very ready for a long sleep after that drive! Bentley, the huge Bernadoodle was so excited for me to arrive.

Charlie happily went with my older daughter when she came to pick him up Friday night basically demanding to get in her car when she arrived. She had expected to have to catch him.

Where will I be next week? I will have endured a very long flight and arrived in a destination I never expected to visit.

Well, the scammers called back as promised on Monday. I told the woman she was good at her job as a scam artist. She tried really hard to convince me she was legitimate. I informed her I had already filed a report with the real FBI. I told her to never call me again. When I asked her if she minded if I had the Police Chief join the call, she hung up. I think she was a bit frustrated with me.

My trip to the allergist on Monday resulted in 80 patches being placed on my back to stay there until Thursday. Only one reaction to another weird additive and no reaction to the one I tested allergic to many years ago. As usual, my system remains a mystery. I also had a cardiologist appointment where I was declared good for another six months. My sports medicine appointment where I hoped to get a cortisone shot was canceled by the doctor so I’m off on this trip with a painful shoulder.

Thursday night was fun watching some of the last place league teams work their way through the tournament bracket and come out victorious. The 10-year-old game lasted two hours and five minutes and the 12-year-old game lasted close to three hours. Both of these games were scheduled to be one and one half hours but in both games the players battled for the win.

Friday night finished all but one division with the passing out of league rings and tournament rings to lots of happy players. Although not always the most popular choice, every player who completed the season received some type of award. Potts Camp did an amazing job hosting the end of season tournament with little notice.

Olivia managed to stay at 4-H camp the entire week and actually had a great time swimming, canoeing, making crafts, and making new friends. She got a new softball glove on Saturday since she is moving up to a 12-inch softball and her youth glove was too small.
