Mildred Ann Alderson Bowen
Mildred Ann Alderson Bowen entered peacefully into eternity on June 2, 2026, at the age of 93.
Born on August 3, 1932, in Potts Camp, Miss., Mildred was the daughter of John Houston Alderson and Jewel Sanders Alderson. She spent most of her life in North Mississippi, where she built a life defined by hard work, perseverance, and devotion to family.
Mildred worked for many years in manufacturing before beginning a long career at Miller's Shoe Store in Holly Springs, Miss. She believed in staying busy and took pride in a job well done. Even after retirement, slowing down never seemed to suit her.
Known to friends as "Ms. Mildred," she was admired for her warm smile, quick wit, and genuine love for others. She was always on the move, rarely content to sit still for long. Even into her nineties, she remained active and independent, walking daily until only a few months before her passing.
She enjoyed watching sports of every kind and rarely missed a game on television. She also had a well-known sweet tooth and found joy in life's simple pleasures, especially candy. Family was the center of her world, and she treasured every moment spent with those she loved.
Her grandson, Bo Bear, held an especially cherished place in her heart. She played a significant role in his upbringing and took immense pride in the man he became. From little league fields to high school stadiums and gymnasiums, she rarely missed a game and was unquestionably his biggest fan. She celebrated every accomplishment, offered unwavering encouragement, and shared a bond with him that remained one of the greatest blessings of her life.
Her great-granddaughter, Grace Bear Uz, brought her tremendous joy. To Grace, she was simply "GG"—a title worn with pride, love, and affection. Nothing made Mildred happier than seeing the family she loved continue to grow.
One of the greatest blessings of Mildred's life was her marriage to Billy Bowen. Married in 1950, they shared 59 years together before his passing in 2009, building a life centered on commitment, perseverance, and family.
Mildred was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Billy Bowen; her parents, John Houston Alderson and Jewel Sanders Alderson; her son-in-law, Bruce Burton; her sister, Betty Bowen; and her brother, David Alderson.
She is survived by her daughter and best friend, Dianne Burton; her grandson, Bo Bear and his wife, Cher; her greatgranddaughter, Grace Bear Uz and her husband, Henry Uz; and many extended family members and friends who will cherish her memory.
Though she will be deeply missed, her legacy of strength, determination, kindness, and steadfast love will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Interment was at Bethany Church Cemetery in Potts Camp on Friday, June 5.
