Smoke Signals and other news
Wonderful showers of rain. The ground so quickly drinks it up. We certainly need more than we got, but must be grateful for every drop. Pray for the people of southern Georgia as the wildfires rage. There is only one county between my daughter’s family and the mandatory evacuation area as the main fire remains out of control destroying homes, businesses, and lives. Her family is prepared if they must leave but so scary.
This week was a bit busier for me as I am finally feeling some better and getting out a bit. Be mindful when you start on a new medicine of what the possible side effects can be even if your doctor assures you it could not be causing your symptoms. In January a new blood pressure medication was added to my regimen. This was the beginning of my downward spiral although I did not relate the two at the time. After many test that mostly came out negative, thousands of dollars spent, and weeks of barely being able to take care of myself, I read again the possible side effects and immediately stopped the medication. It has taken a while to get out of my system, and I am still not where I need to be medically, but I will not be taking that one again! Now, they have added yet another new one to be watched!
Rebecca’s family held a memorial for her Friday night. So many of her classmates and friends came out to celebrate her short life. A nephew of mine who does not live here, but knows the family, was amazed at how many people I knew. He asked, “Do you know everyone here?” I knew more than half and many were from their days playing baseball and softball. It was good to see them.
I recently joined the “Between the Covers Book Club” at the Ruth B. French Library. This week was the first week I actually felt like attending a meeting. I had been reading the books but not interacting in the discussions. Hope I can attend on a regular basis.
Something I have long wanted to do with the approval of the Byhalia Sports Association Board of Directors was to find a place to donate the leftover uniforms from more than thirty years accumulation. As I supervised the cleaning out of the “ball shed,” we sorted through them all, disposed of those no longer usable and packed up the remaining ones. This week my car was loaded, and they were taken to the warehouse to be shipped to the children of Ukraine. There were pants, shirts, hats, visors, belts, and socks that will bring joy to new children. They will be sporting shirts some of which say “Byhalia” on the front-a place I am sure they have never heard of, but I hope they make wonderful memories wearing them.
We traveled to Water Valley Saturday night to visit the three great-grandsons while their parents had a much needed “date night.” So much energy and fun in that house! I mostly hold the baby-a tough job but somebody has to do it!
