Edith Haraway Haggard

Edith Haraway Haggard died peacefully on March 30, 2026 at The Pinnacle Assisted Living Facility in Oxford, Miss., where she received excellent care for five years. Born on January 27, 1938 in Memphis, Tenn., she grew up in the Whitehaven community. Edith enjoyed living on the outskirts of Holly Springs on the Number Two Green of the Kirkwood Golf Course.

Edith was kind, loving, smart, creative and had a good sense of humor. She loved animals and took care of many in her lifetime. Edith was an excellent writer and horticulturist. She was fun to be with. She had a wide range of business knowledge, having worked for a patent lawyer, State Welfare Department and several large businesses.

She is survived by her sister, Betty H. Barnes Jackson; her niece, Christine Jackson Rials and husband Chris, all of Vicksburg. Edith is also survived by a stepdaughter, Debby Thompson and husband, Dr. Richard Thompson, of Memphis; and a stepson, Larry Haggard of Old Hickory, Tenn.

She was predeceased by her husband, Harvey D. Haggard, of Holly Springs; and her parents, Thomas and Marion Haraway, of Memphis and later Como, Miss.

Edith will be inurned in the columbarium at her beloved First Presbyterian Church of Holly Springs on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Dr. Bob Sharman officiating the ceremony. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Holly Springs, 164 South Memphis Street, Holly Springs, MS 38635, or a charity of the donor's choice.
