Smoke Signals and other news
Sunday morning and my house is warm. I have food, a generator, fuel for it, candles, flashlights, water, books to read, warm clothing, blankets, and food for the pets. Friends and family have called or texted to check on me. So far, the power is holding up. We are blessed to have Northcentral Electric Cooperative as our provider. They work yearround trimming trees and maintaining the power grid. If there is a power outage, they get to it quickly. Prayers for all the linemen/others who must work out in this bitter cod or get out to take care of animals. I grew up on a farm and remember the chores still had to be done and the animals fed and cared for. Many stories come to mind from ice and snow storms of years gone by.
Last week Byhalia lost another long-time citizen, Betty Tuttle. She was well known and had many friends in the community. I personally did not know her well but know many others who did. They had many kind things to say about her. Sympathy and prayers for her family.
The birds are truly enjoying the feeder with all the bad weather. I’m sure I will be filling it frequently over the next few days. I had thought about buying one of those bird feeders with a camera. That probably would be enjoyable right now.
Byhalia’s former Mayor Phil Malone passed away peacefully this week. He came to Byhalia as a child with his parents, Rhea and Leamon Malone, when his father became a teacher at Byhalia. Phil was a great friend to Byhalia and its citizens. He was truly a supporter, encourager, and hard worker. He served as president of the Byhalia Chamber of Commerce, was definitely a supporter of the baseball and softball programs in Byhalia along with supporting and serving his church. His funeral was attended by friends, family, community members, and schoolmates. Love and sympathy to his wife, children, and sister. He will be truly missed.
My car went to the shop on Monday this week, almost six weeks after the accident. It has been such a struggle dealing with the insurance company. The body shop has found hidden damage and the fight with the insurance company is on again. The body shop has been great. The only other positive thing so far is that the insurance company did furnish an equitable rental car. I was surprised and disappointed that the insurance company did furnish an equitable rental car. I was surprised and disappointed that the rental car was not ready on time, had not been washed, and had less than half a tank of gas. It has been a long time since I had a rental car. Have they changed that much? I’m sure I am expected to return it full of gas and on time.
I took three trips to doctor this week that were not on my schedule. I did get some relief for various issues. Supposedly, I will be going to physical therapy soon. Still waiting on the results from one appointment.
Although it’s cold and your mind is not on spring sports, it will be warm soon. Sign those kids up for baseball, softball, and t-ball in your community.
