Brenda Williams, a true treasure

Here we are at Christmas. During the hot summer days, Christmas seemed so far away. The weather is cooler. The days are shorter. Parents are stressed. Kids are excited. Teachers are grateful for a short break. Out of town family will be arriving soon. I didn’t get to make my usual trip to Georgia this December for a variety of reasons and Olivia has let me know this is unacceptable. I did promise her a visit in January.

Were you fortunate enough to be selected for the MSEMA Grant for a safe room? I was not selected but someone I know was. I have been helping them gather all the required documentation and getting it submitted. That was a process, but it is done hopefully. Now the wait begins to see if it is approved. Maybe it will never have to be used but it will be good to know it is there if needed.

The flu seems to have invaded the area. So many people are sick. Praying for a quick recovery for all and that it won’t continue to spread. I did take a flu shot as I have for many years. I don’t mingle with crowds often but that doesn’t mean I won’t be exposed. I still have no idea where I picked up strep weeks ago. This old body doesn’t have the strength to fight off illnesses as it once did.

Our town lost a true treasure this week when Brenda Williams went to her heavenly home. She was a kind soul. She gave many years of service to Sears and later to Citizens Bank in Byhalia. She loved her church. She cared for her sister in her final days. She fed not only her cats but those who came by and were hungry. She made baked goodies for many people. She was a regular at Byhalia Nutrition where her favorited drink was her “Georgia Peach.” She certainly will be missed.

This week included a trip to my dentist who I have been going to since I was around 19 years old. Guess you could say we grew up together. He only works two days a week now, but I always make my appointments on those days. It’s always like seeing an old friend. I may be among the select few who enjoy going to the dentist.

I still haven’t been able to get my car repaired. The process these days is lengthy. First, I had to wait a week for the accident report. Now I am waiting for the other person’s insurance to “investigate.” Currently the car is drivable in daylight hours, but since one headlight is nonfunctional, nighttime driving is not possible. These things used to be simpler.

I was delighted to receive a fruit basket this week from a local organization. Fresh fruit is always a favorite with me and it is something I don’t frequently buy for myself.

Merry Christmas everyone and remember Jesus is the reason for the season.
