Glover, Rodgers win special election

In a December 2 runoff election for Marshall County, supervisors in District 1 and District 3, Goston “Redd” Glover won by 33 votes and Terry Rodgers won his district by 24 votes.

Unofficial voter turnout for District 1 was 664 and 640 in District 3.

Glover was appointed to fill the vacancy in District 1 when supervisor Charles Terry resigned as supervisor to be seated as mayor of the City of Holly Springs in July 2025.

Rodgers was appointed to the District 3 seat following the resignation of Keith Taylor.

The incumbents did not get a majority in their races at the November 4 special election, thus requiring a runoff.

Unofficial election results showed Bernita Fountain, former Ward 1 alderman for the City of Holly Springs, garnered 314 votes to Glover’s 347.

Rodgers took 332 votes and his competitor Mark Turner received 308 votes.

Fountain led in I North Holly Springs by a vote of 110 to Glover’s 75.

Glover took 1 Red Banks by 77 to Fountain’s 46. Glover led 1 West Holly Springs 195 to Fountain’s 158.

Rodgers won 3 Byhalia by 210 votes to Turner’s 138. Turner led the 3 Barton box by 101 to Rodger’s 86 and the 3 Cayce box by 69 to Rodger’s 36 votes.

Rodgers thanked constituents Wednesday, December 3, for sending him back to fill the District 3 seat on the board.

He said he looks forward to continued unity on the Board of Supervisors with the election of himself and Glover.

“I think we have unity on the board and we can work together,” he said. “We have projects coming in that are going to be good for the county.”

Rodgers served one term on the Marshall County School District Board and ran unsuccessfully twice for District 3 supervisor before being appointed to the board in 2024 to fill a vacancy. He is known for his work as Santa during Christmas and has kept a snow white beard year around for that calling.

He has played Santa for 25 to 30 years, now filling that role for eager children in Marshall, DeSoto and Benton counties. He was appointed to serve as Santa for the town of Byhalia’s Christmas parade when Santa Ron was out of town and unable to serve.

Rodgers participates in the Christmas parades in Ashland, Olive Branch and Byhalia.

Glover thanked voters for sending him back to serve District 1.

“I would like to thank all the voters who voted for me and those who didn’t,” he said. “I’m going to be a supervisor committed to living up to my promises for continued growth, stronger values, a better business environment, and a better community for a better Marshall County.”

He said he is honored to serve.

“I’m honored to be here to have a place to raise our families, build careers and grow businesses and to enjoy a strong, connected community,” he said.

“I’m very grateful to the people who came out to vote. I will continue working with individuals in my district and outside my district and be involved.”
