Virginia Hamer-Gibson

Virginia Hamer-Gibson, 63, of Michigan City, died November 22, 2025. She was a member of Union Hill Baptist Church in Ashland and retired from Ashland Middle/High School; then later from Ashland Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Visitation will be held at Serenity Funeral Home on Dec. 6 from 4-6 p.m. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. At Union Hill MB Church on Dec. 7.

She leaves her sons, Montrel Gibson of New Albany, Keontrae Gibson of Michigan City; sisters, Malinda Shield (Rally), Jeanette Hamer, both of Chicago, Ill., Marylean Payne (Barry) of Lamar; brothers, L.B. Hamer (Arlean), Cater Hamer (Mary), Troy Hamer, all of Michigan City; seven grandchildren and two godsons.

She was preceded in death by her father, LB Hamer; mother, Elcylean Hamer; brother, George Poplar; sisters, Bonnie Webb, Jennie Gibson, Ester Avery; and a god-grandson, Wilmontre Hamer.
