Pace of construction strong at the Trail

County engineer Larry Britt continues to report on progress on construction projects in Marshall County.

At the October 6 meeting of the board of supervisors, he reported on the battery plant construction site, the sewer projects and also the bridge raise project on Blackwater Road in District 4.

He said new lines are being laid by Comcast on Lee Creek Road at Cayce Point subdivision.

In Battery Plant and other construction, Britt asked for pay request approvals including: • pay request #2 for $99,718 from Townes Construction for Poppy 3A at the north entrance.

• pay request #2 for $835,373 from Caldwell Tank, for construction of the elevated water tank at Project Poppy.

• pay request #3 for $254,980 from Ste Bil Grading for road construction on North Barringer Road.

• pay request #7 for $157,745 from Trey Construction for the ARPA sewer project in the Hyline Drive area.

Work on the North Lenderman Road project will require documents prepared so funding can be requested. The agreement includes redoing an engineering agreement, then bidding the project, according to Justin Hall, executive director of Marshall County Industrial Development Authority. He said the timing of the construction to begin this fall is not ideal. The project can begin in fall and be completed in the spring. The board of supervisors approved a Memorandum of Understanding between the Mississippi Development Authority, the State Aid program and Marshall County. Britt Engineering was approved as consulting engineer on the project.

A board order to sign notice to proceed with Ste Bil Grading work on the Blackwater Road bridge raise project was approved. The bridges are being raised to prevent floodwaters from covering the road to allow traffic on Blackwater during rainy seasons.

County engineer Tim Powell submitted pay requests from Britt for engineering work on the following projects:

• engineering on Wastewater treatment project ARC21689 for $154,256.

• engineering on Hyline Drive Sewer project for $36,266.

• engineering on North Barringer Road for $40,625.

• engineering on Blackwater Road bridge raise project for $31,936.

• engineering on project Poppy for $117,253.

He said interest in economic development is strong in the industrial parks with new industries looking at sites and a couple of spec buildings.
