Virginia Lewis Cocke Mitchell
Virginia Lewis Cocke Mitchell, 83, of Holly Springs, passed away at Baptist Hospital in Oxford on October 20, 2025. She was born On October 3, 1942, in Memphis, Tenn., to Charles Powell Cocke and Mary Lewis Woodson Cocke. Virgina was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Holly Springs, and retired as a bookkeeper, having worked with Merchants and Farmers Bank, Bank of Holly Springs, Fitch Oil Company and Cousins.
An active member of the Marshall County community for most of her life, `Miss Virginia' served for many years on the Board of Directors of the Marshall County Educational Foundation, as a Marshall County Election Commissioner, and as Elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Holly Springs, as well as a loving grandmother, great-grandmother, and trusted friend to so many.
Virginia is survived by two devoted daughters, Jane Ann Mitchell Autry, Andrea Mitchell Chresman (David), both of Holly Springs. She also leaves two beloved grandchildren, Kelley Mitchell Autry of Holly Springs and Maura Jane McCool (Austin) of Grenada; two great-granddaughters, Konlee Jane Autry and Kenlee Allen. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Donny Mitchell; her twin sister, Ann Cocke Carpenter; a brother, Joseph Whitley Cocke; an infant sister, Kathryn Cocke; and her parents.
Services for `Miss Virginia' were held on Friday, October 24, 2025, at 2 p.m., at First Presbyterian Church in Holly Springs. A visitation for family and friends was held on Thursday evening, October 23, from 5 until 8 p.m., at the church. Following the funeral service, burial was in Hill Crest Cemetery. Holly Springs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Hudsonville Cemetery Fund (4741 Highway 4 East, Holly Springs, Mississippi 38635), or to the Holly Springs First Presbyterian Church.
