Lions, Indians, Hawks fall in district games
It was a tough night for H.W. Byers Thursday when Falkner visited Marshall County.
“We didn’t play our best football; we were just sluggish,” head coach Mario Lane said about the 56-26 loss in District 2-1A play. “We jumped out to an early lead, and then we just didn’t handle adversity well.”
The Lions came up short four times inside the Eagles’ 10-yard line.
“We just didn’t execute,” he said, “and unfortunately we let the game slip away.”
Byers, 5-3 overall and 1-1 in the district, hosts winless Ashland this Friday. The Lions need a victory to finish second in the district and host a firstround playoff contest.
“It’s really important that we get to host,” Lane said. “We don’t want to go somewhere else.”
Byhalia versus Clarksdale
Byhalia saw its season come to an end Friday night with a 35-8 District 3-4A loss on the road at Clarksdale. The Indians have an open date this week, the final week of the regular season, and finish 3-6.
Reginald Davis wraps up his first season as head coach of the Indians, and he said the program took a step in the right direction.
“The entire season, our kids fought through adversity and grew together as a team,” he said.
He said the team followed the lead of its captains, Tyler Perkins, Aaron Jeffries, Jabari Dockery and Da’Marlyn Anderson.
“Hats off to these outstanding young men,” said Coach Davis about his four captains. “They are the first brick in the foundation of Byhalia football moving forward. I look forward to seeing our program grow and progress.”
Holly Springs vs. Coahoma County
Holly Springs dropped a 52- 0 decision at home Friday night to District 2-3A opponent Coahoma County.
The Hawks, 0-9 on the season, will host North Panola Thursday of this week on Senior Night.
