Indians, Hawks, Lions lose
Byhalia had the tall task of a taking on a traditional power in its District 3-4A opener Thursday night at home.
The end result was a 39-6 loss for the Indians after three straight non-district wins, but head coach Reginald Davis liked his team’s fight against an unbeaten bunch of Senatobia Warriors.
“Senatobia is a standard for our district,” he said. “They are very well-coached and well-organized. Hats off to coach Carter Norris and his staff.
“I thought our kids did an outstanding job of competing. We got hit in the mouth, we took it, and we punched back.”
C.J. Wilson had a 65-yard touchdown run, which was the highlight of the night for the Byhalia offense. Tight end Damarlyn Anderson, the team’s leading receiver, had another 60-plus-yard night.
“Our offensive line did a great job up front matching Senatobia,” Davis said. “We lack depth, which hurts us in the long run. Again, I am very impressed with the way our kids continue to fight. They never put their heads down, and they’re learning how to play through adversity.
“Competing against teams like Senatobia gives us the opportunity to see what we’re striving to be and what our end goal is as a program.”
Byhalia (3-3) will stay in district play this Thursday night as it hosts Rosa Fort (4-1).
In other games involving teams in Marshall County last week, Holly Springs lost its District 2-3A opener, 47-6 to Independence, while 1A H.W. Byers lost at 4A Rosa Fort, 488.
The Hawks (0-6) host Pure Academy of Memphis, Tenn., this Friday night, while the Lions (3-2) host Smithville on Thursday night.
