Patriots cruise to homecoming win
It took a little time to light the fire but Marshall Academy blistered Greenville Christian School on homecoming night.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Patriots tallied 28 second- quarter points and eased past the Saints 42-14. MA improved to 4-1 on the season.
“We got off to a very slow start,” head coach Chris Bunio said. “Greenville Christian came out in something completely different, and it gave us trouble early on. But we made the adjustments.”
The Saints had a 99-yard scoop and score right before halftime to get on the board.
The Patriots got two quick touchdowns in the third, one on offense and the other on defense with Tyler Wright getting the sack and Jase Akins the fumble recovery in the end zone. The clock then ran nonstop the rest of the way due to MA’s big lead.
“I thought our quarterback (Conner Floyd) had a really good night with his reads and smart decisions,” Bunio said. “Defensively, our first-team defense gave up no points the entire night, and that’s good to see.”
Two defensive starters, Brennan Smith and Jayden Walker, did not play due to injuries.
Marshall travels to Batesville this Friday night to face rival North Delta School. North Delta is 1-4 on the season.
The Green Wave lost 35-6 last week to Winona Christian School.
