Cardinals, Hawks lose season openers
Potts Camp and Holly Springs hit the road Friday night and lost their first games of the season in different fashions.
The Cardinals were tied with Strayhorn at 16 in the second half before falling 2824.
“We just couldn’t get a stop when we needed it,” said head coach Chris Daniels. “The kids played hard. We have to eliminate mistakes.”
Potts Camp missed some crucial opportunities to put points on the board, including a touchdown called back due to a penalty.
Meanwhile, the Holly Springs Hawks traveled about an hour and 15 minutes to the east on I-22 to Mantachie and were saddled with a 40-0 setback by the Mustangs.
Potts Camp hosts Myrtle this Thursday night. Myrtle defeated Falkner 29-12 in week one. Holly Springs hosts H.W. Byers this Friday night. Byers beat Byhalia 20-0 in week one.
