Jamboree successful; games start Thursday
Four Marshall County head coaches put their teams through a preseason test Friday night in a jamboree. The real thing starts this week.
“The jamboree went really well,” said Potts Camp Coach Chris Daniels, who hosted the event. “Most importantly, there were no injuries. And we had a good fan turnout from the various communities.”
Joining the home team in the shortened practice matchups were coach Clifford Brown’s Holly Springs Hawks, coach Reginald Davis’s Byhalia Indians, coach Mario Lane’s H.W. Byers Indians, plus Tishomingo County and Thrasher from outside the county.
Davis, the new head coach at Byhalia, said he thought his Indians displayed a business mentality leading up to the first game of the season.
“Our kids played fast and physical,” said Davis, who faces a big rebuilding task. “They did a great job of executing what they learned in practice. I want our kids to experience success, and the jamboree helped us lay the first brick in our program’s foundation.”
Two of the county squads, Byhalia and Byers, face each other to open the real season this Thursday night at Byers.
Friday night season-openers include Holly Springs at Mantachie and Potts Camp at Strayhorn.
