Hill Street-Cuba Street report

Following a lengthy executive session to make appointments to the city of Holly Springs at the Tuesday July 1 board of aldermen meeting, engineer Larry Britt reported on progress on the Hill Street/Cuba Street project.

The project to stop erosion in the area in Ward 4 has begun with White Construction and Associates as general contractor.

Britt asked for a correction in a supplemental agreement having a one penny error, that when amplified created an error of 25 cents.

The board of aldermen approved correction of the change order #2 containing the error.

Britt asked for change order #3, which extends the contract completion date of White Construction and Associates by 60 days. The project was to be completed by June 30, but frequent, heavy rains delayed progress on completion of the project funded by the Mississippi Legislature.

A letter asking permission to extend the deadline for the project completion by the Mississippi Department of Finance and Administration had been drafted but not sent by former mayor Sharon Gipson.

The board of aldermen approved Britt’s request for change order #3 to extend the contractor’s completion day by 60 days.

Britt asked the board for pay request #2 for $113,153 to White Construction and the board approved the measure.

W. Valley Ave. drain repair

Britt asked for permission to advertise for bids or to get quotes for the repair of erosion damage on West Valley Avenue about 150 feet from the North Memphis Street intersection. He said the stormwater drain had washed out and the headwall had collapsed causing a washout under the street and sidewalk. A waterline may have to be relocated.

Britt said if the cost of repair of the pipe exceeds $75,000 the work has to be advertised for bids. If under $75,000, a minimum of two quotes will be necessary to let the project to a contractor.

The board of aldermen approved Britt’s request to obtain either bids or quotes.
