83rd Annual Pilgrimage held

“Grits and Grace” was the theme of the 83^rd Holly Springs Pilgrimage, presenting and celebrating the women of Holly Springs. The Pigrimage was postponed to Friday June 6, after storms in April shut down the Pilgrimage. The garden club was patterned after a similar event in Natchez, attended in 1934 by five club members. The homes on the Pilgrimage were largely built by enslaved people, said Sarah Taylor, co-chairman of the three-day event. “The influence of these people is a testimony to the quality of architecture,” Taylor said. Minnie Wooten Johnson purchased Montrose and restored it and left her furnishings in Montrose in 1956 when she died.
