Smoke Signals and other news

Let the adventure begin

Let the adventure begin. On Friday, I left home for an 11hour drive to my daughter's home in Georgia. There were stretches of sunshine and easy driving, stretches of bumperto-bumper traffic for miles, and stretches of storms and heavy rain. With only three stops along the way, I had many family members calling to check on me (hands-free device) and music, but no little dog to entertain me. He stayed behind with my daughter Emily's family where he is being properly spoiled. He likes to visit there as she has dogs to play with. Other family members are checking on the cats and hopefully filling the hummingbird feeders. I did leave some sugar water mixed but I know it won't be enough.

We will leave later this week for a four-day cruise to the Bahamas. I, for one, have never been on a cruise or left the USA. I have been told it will be wonderful. I am looking forward to it, but know I will be happy to return home when it's over. I will stay in Georgia a few extra days to have more time with Ellen and her family including their huge Bernadoodle who follows me every step I take. I think he is still looking for Charlie who usually is with me.

You may know that I have many allergies that cause a lot of itching. I don't pay a lot of attention to new spots itching. I just may be more observant in the future. A spot on my back was itching last week. I couldn't reach it and really couldn't see it. I finally got a glimpse in the mirror. An immediate call went to my brother for emergency tick removal. I didn't ask what he was doing as it did not matter. I knew he was going to stop and get that think off my back. Of course, he did. It had been there way too long. A portal message to my doctor complete with a picture resulted in a large bottle of antibiotics along with antibiotic ointment. I know they are plentiful. I do cut my grass, spend hours at ball fields and have animals. Doug once got Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever from one and I don't want any part of that. There are many opportunities for them to attach, but I would really prefer they not do that.

Before leaving and the first whole day I was there, hours and hours were spent preparing for the summer baseball and softball season that will get started just as I return. There were last minute registrations, teams to create, coaches to meet with, and the uniform order to put together and submit along with endless questions to answer.

Wednesday night Refuge Church sponsored an end-of - season cookout for the players and families from Byhalia Parks and Rec. There were bounce houses, music, hot dogs, chips, and drinks for all. Each child had their name called and received their league awards. There was much laughter and excitement and a few “see you next year” exchanges. We are grateful to Refuge Church for providing this fun time for the kids.

Olivia’s hand is much better. She got to attend a private tryout for the travel softball team. She hasn’t heard from them yet and it’s okay if she doesn’t make it. Just trying out was a huge step for her.
