Post-season begins for Patriots

Marshall Academy baseball and the playoffs are synonymous, and the Patriots start the 2025 post-season this week.

Coach Dustin Skelton's squad faces St. Joseph in the opening round. MA visited Greenville Tuesday for the first two games of the series. If a third game is necessary, it will be played Thursday in Holly Springs.

“We're playing good baseball right now,” Skelton said, “and we are looking forward to being in the playoffs again. We know we have to go out there and compete to the best of our ability and hopefully that will get us to the next round.”

The Patriots ended the regular season at 19-9 overall and 8-3 in District 1-4A. They're the number two seed from the district, finishing behind North Delta.

“You have to play well this time of year, and you can't look ahead,” he said. “It's one game, one series at a time.”

The winner of the MarshallSt. Joe series moves to round two of North State competition the week of April 21 versus Canton Academy, which earned an opening-round bye. The North State semi-finals are the week of April 28, followed by the championship series the week of May 5. The North champion will play the South champion the week of May 12 for the Class 4A state championship.
