Rust women's tennis serves up a new era for 2025 season

The Rust College Women’s Tennis team is excited to kick off the 2025 season under the dynamic leadership of firstyear Head Coach Venecca Green. A decorated coach, Green won the 2023 Mississippi High Activities Association Championship, has guided teams to five JTT State Championship finals, and was selected to attend the prestigious USTA Coaching Leadership Internship in Orlando. Coach Green’s arrival marks a fresh start for the program, which is bolstered by top-tier new recruits. Emeline Honfoga, one of the best tennis players in her home country, and Karley Newell, a Jackson, native who won the Jackson Public School City Tennis Tournament, join the roster to elevate the team’s competitive edge.

While the majority of the season’s matches will be on the road, Rust College will host key contests in close proximity to Holly Springs. Two of the closest games are scheduled in Southaven on March 28 and in Memphis on April 11, where the Bearcats will face off against rival LeMoyne-Owen College.

“I’m thrilled to lead our Women’s Tennis program into a new season,” said Coach Green. “With our talented recruits and the dedication of our returning players, we’re poised to make a strong impact on the court. We look forward to a season full of growth, competition, and memorable matches.”
