Holly Springs powerlifting team first in region

The Holly Springs High School Lady Hawks are back-to-back Region 2-3A powerlifting champions. They brought home this year’s top prize in January from the regional event at Mantachie.

Several Holly Springs lifters earned first-place honors, with two of those accomplishing new division records.

Chanelle Isom, competing in the 97-lb. Weight class, finished first and set four division records – squat, 135 lbs.; bench, 75; deadlift, 200; for a total of 410.

Shyia Spencer, in the 114-lb. Weight class, claimed first place and set a division record for bench press at 85 lbs. She broke the previous bench record of 70 lbs., set by former Lady Hawk lifter Rickayla Whitelow.

Other first-place finishers for Holly Springs included Anastasiah Barrientoz, first in the 123-lb. Weight class with a 390lb. Total; Asia Jackson, first in the 148-lb. Weight class with a 570-lb. Total; and Dejah Howell, first in the super heavyweight class with a 655-lb. Total.

Taking second-place for the Lady Hawks were Aniyah Jones, in the 114-lb. Weight class, with a 325-lb. Total; Ariana Cowen, in the 198-lb. Weight class with a 515-lb. Total; and Taniela Richard, second in the super heavyweight class with a 605-lb. Total.

Head coach of the Lady Hawks is Kyrodrick Jeffries. He is assisted by Morgan Vickery.

The North State Meet will be held March 5 at Mantachie.
