Thomas, new Parks and Rec director
Darrel Thomas of Holly Springs was named as the director of the Holly Springs Parks and Recreation Department at the Jan. 7 meeting of the mayor and board of aldermen.
He is a 1996 graduate of Holly Springs High School.
Thomas graduated with a bachelor’s in business administration from Rust College and also holds an associate degree from Northwest Community College.
Thomas was certified by the Sports Management Worldwide, an eight-week basketball GM and Scouting course. The course teaches students about NBA and International Collective Bargaining Agreements, NBA Scouting Techniques, Scouting reports, NBA general manager practices, video editing and statistical analysis formulas.
Thomas said he also served as administrative assistant with the Blue Chip Sports Agency, Cincinnati, Ohio.
He said he served underserved kids in communities through the TPC Foundation.
He is the son of Josie Thomas Sanders, who grew up in Waterford, and of the late John Sanders.
Thomas and his wife, Juanette Cummings Thomas, have one daughter, 25, who graduates from the University of Memphis School of Law in May.
