Smoke Signals and other news
What a beautiful snowfall we received this week. Kids and adults got their fill of snowball fights, building snowmen, making snow angels, making and eating snow cream, sledding, and much more. Some of you fell and were injured. This part was not so much fun and will take some time to recuperate from. Some were able to be off work and for that you should be grateful. Some worked long cold hours to ensure others were safe and warm. Each of those dedicated people deserve a big thank you.
It took me until 2:30 p.m. The first day to convince my little dog to leave the porch for a potty break. He has never been a big fan of anything being different in his yard. He has even been known to bark at fog when it dares enter his realm. He has been a bit more willing to go out after the first successful trip but doesn’t stay long when he does.
The adventures with our somewhat feral cat continue. I recently wrote that she actually let me pet her briefly after she returned from an extended adventure. She has never been a very vocal cat but rather just comes by for food/water and on occasion sleeping in her “house” on the porch. This time she stood by the front door meowing loudly. I opened the door. She let me pet her, looked inside but chose to go on her way only to return later repeating her behavior. Again, I opened the door telling her she could come in until the weather improved. Guess the warmth from the house was more inviting than outside and in she came. She stays hidden somewhere in the house for the most part but comes out on occasion for some petting and even allowed me to pick her up briefly. I plan for her to return to her outside life when the weather is better as she hasn’t caught on to the use of the litter box..
Progress on the house makeover continues with only two rooms and some closets left to refloor. Some rooms have the trim installed. I continue to paint a few pieces of furniture as my body allows. I’ve never been a big fan of painting furniture but typically prefer for the wood grain to show; however, the pieces I am painting are looking pretty good and add a bit of color to the rooms. I still have not been able to place much furniture in its final location as we have to move items from room to room to get to the remaining floors. I have been able to hang curtains in the living room.
Progress continues with the new medication although the side effects are not exactly pleasant. Last night and today have been better with the nausea. Hopefully, that will stay away once my body adjusts to the medication.
Landon (grandson) was able to finish in second place in his weight class in the Regional Middle School Tournament. Only wrestling two months, he has gained strength, speed, knowledge, confidence, work ethic, and discipline. He has a passion for his new sport.
