Awards keep coming for Byhalia's own Corvell Todd

The Olympics may be over, but the awards keep coming for Byhalia’s own Corvell Todd. You will often find him standing at the top of the podium.

Todd started his athletic career playing baseball with Byhalia Sports Association where his father, Wendell, often coached his son’s team. He graduated from Byhalia High School in 2018, where he was the Mississippi State Champion in the high jump at 6’8”. His parents, Wendell and Melinda Todd, and Iris Todd, along his brothers Cordell and Cortez, have been his biggest supporters from the beginning.

Todd attended Hinds Community College in Mississippi where he began to flourish. Todd began jumping over seven feet and won the 2019 and 2020 NJCAA indoor national titles as well as the 2019 outdoor national title at the event. He graduated from Hinds with a personal best of seven feet two inches.

Todd transferred to Southern Mississippi where he continued to flourish. He became a two-time Conference USA champion in the high jump. Moving on to the Florida Gators, he completed the 8th best jump in school history at 7’3”.

Todd had his sights set on the Olympics in Paris for 2024. He went to the Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon June 21-26, placing fifth. Only the top three advanced to Paris.

Todd said, “Just know I’m grateful for this opportunity for track to take me this far. I never thought I’d be in this position growing up. Thank you to all my supporters, especially my friends and family who know how hard I’ve worked to get here.”
