Red hot Pats edge Winona Christian
In one of the biggest MAIS games on the year, Winona Christian Academy rolled into town with a six game winning streak at stake. Meanwhile, the Marshall Acddemy Patriots, winners of the last three games, hit the field ready for arguably their toughest task of the season.
A dominant defensive performance by Marshall, led by senior LB Eli Gurley gave Marshall the 14-13 win breaking Winona’s six game winning streak.
Coach Ben Durham will tell you the game wasn’t pretty, but his team fought hard to get the win.
“The defense bails us out again,” he said. “We had plenty of chances, but we just continue to make mistakes in important situations. I’m disappointed we played down to their level. They have a nice squad. They were 7-1, but we just weren’t physical enough and allowed them to hang around. We have a strong chance to be a top seed in the playoffs, but hopefully we will start firing on all cylinders.”
Patriots will celebrate senior night at home verses Central Holmes Christian Academy in regular season play.
