Smoke Signals and other news
Did your area get enough rain to last for a bit? Mine certainly did. Four days of rain and counting so far. My little dog, who normally loves to go outside, will ask to go out thinking he can bask in the sun, one of his favorite activities, and balk at the door when he encounters the “liquid sunshine.” He will go out to do his business when he can’t hold it, but I don’t have to call him to come back to the porch as he runs to one of his favorite spots and back very quickly.
I have had to cancel all activities at the Byhalia fields for a few days. Although you can play soccer in the rain, and the kids wouldn’t mind at all, the ground is completely saturated.
A couple of weeks ago I accidentally let my hummingbird feeders run out of food. When I discovered they were empty I didn’t have time to stop and refill them. By the time I got home most of the hummers had abandoned my feeders and gone next door to feed. Only one or two remained faithful, waiting for a refill. Several days later, the neighbor ran out of food, and they were back at my feeders in full force. There are at least twelve-hard to count as they just won’t be still for a census! I know they will be leaving soon, and I will miss them but will know they left with their fill of sugar water. I will leave a feeder out through October as there are always a few who stop by on their way south. Hopefully I will be able to feed them again next season and enjoy their antics.
Recently a much younger neighbor has been helping me around the house. It is amazing that she has no idea what a “Tupperware Party” or “Pampered Chef Party” was, what several of the time-honored Tupperware or Pampered Chef gadgets are for, and has no clue at all who “Alf” was. She does love some of the newer cleaning gadgets that I have invested in, and I love that she uses them well! She has been great at helping me declutter. We have a long way to go with a couple of rooms, sheds, the garage, and the attic still to get to, but we have made a great progress. I’ve been able to pass down a few things that some family members wanted, put some things aside for a possible yard sale, and tossed some things that no one can ever use. Each item brings back memories of what they were originally used for, but parting with some has not been as hard as I imagined.
As physical therapy has ended, I am trying to find ways to “keep moving.” I find myself sitting a great deal as I really do not feel like being up and about. When I do get up, I force myself to complete a few tasks until the body says go sit down. I did get my exercise bike repaired and tried it long enough to know I can use it. Now to just get on it and use daily.
I would love to report your news, activities, etc.
