Holly Springs Hawks defeat arch rivals H.W. Byers Lions

For years both the Holly Springs Hawks and the H.W. Byers Lions have been become arch rivals. No matter what sport, it’s in the level of competition that seems to always be a little more intense than just a regular game. From kickoff to the final second, the Hawks dominated the Lions defeating Byers 33-0.

The Hawks earned their first win of the season heading into homecoming. Star runningback Tray Kinkle currently leads the state of Mississippi in rushing after two games. Coach Clifford Brown loves the positives but thinks they should put in time to repair the negatives.

“The line showed growth in the blocking scheme that allowed our backs the opportunity to run through gaping holes. Still got work to do in the passing game. Defensively, we are still not there yet but played well. Overall, I am very pleased with this year’s team,” said Brown.

Brown talked about his team’s excitement heading into homecoming.

“We are glad to get a chance to play in front of our fans. We hope to perform better this week than last because it’s a twofold concept first home game and homecoming should be a spirted practice week,” he said.

The Hawks host Ashland high school for their annual homecoming Sept. 13.
