Recapping week one of NFL football
We couldn’t have asked for a better opener than the Ravens/Chiefs. Two MVP quarterbacks going toe to toe, hoping to set the tone for the season. Not to mention a game that could impact seeding come January. After an extremely wild finish, the Chiefs held on to secure the opening week victory literally by inches.
For the first time ever, the NFL kicked off the season by having games on three separate days. São Paulo, Brazil, was the host of the Eagles Packers for a Friday night matchup of two NFC contenders. All eyes were on Saquon Barkley making the transition to his former rival, the Philadelphia Eagles, and I must say Saquon did not disappoint. Though the Packers looked good, they suffered a significant blow to their franchise quarterback, Jordan Love. He is to miss 3–8 weeks due to a McL sprain.
Fast forward to Sunday or Monday. Instead of going through each game, I’m going to give you my winners and then my losers. Starting with week one winners, first I have to say the Minnesota Vikings. Vikings, who are without their supposedly quarterback of the future, JJ McCarthy, the Vikings looked like they could make a run in an already loaded NFC north. My second winner goes to the New England Patriots. A dynasty that lasted nearly two decades is heading for a future unknown. But to go on the road and beat a team many have circled for the Super Bowl is pretty darn impressive. And last but not least, my final winner of Sunday is not a team, though his team dominated the opposition—who else but Dakota Prescott? Prescott secured the largest contract in NFL history along with guiding the Cowboys to a victory over a tough Browns team.
For my losers, I won’t be long because there just isn’t much to say about these three. First loser, how could I not take the New York Giants? Not only did they look horrendous, but the guy they passed on had a career game Friday in Brazil. The future is very dark for the Giants, and as a lifelong Cowboys fan, I couldn’t feel any happier. My second loser on Sunday were the Carolina Panthers. If you watched the Titans/Bear’s game, then that should tell you all you need to know. And my last loser for week one came on Monday night. Yes the J-E-T-S Jets, Jets, Jets. Total embarrassment for a team like Cincinnati people have big expectations for. If what we saw last night was their peak, then I’m not sure if the Jets will even sneak into the wildcard... Oh, and they have a 40- year-old starting quarterback who just came off an Achilles. The NFL is back, and I cannot wait to take each Sunday as slowly as possible.
