College football week one recap

Week one of college football is in the books, but a lopsided week 1 proves that the power in college football is very well unbalanced.

Example: I can’t remember a time that Florida lost the way they did on their home turf— 41-17 ever. To the hands of the Miami Hurricanes, who reloaded in the transfer portal and signed one of the best QBs in the portal, if not the best, Cam Ward.

There were also some teams that looked poised to be in the final twelve come January. Notre Dame is going to College Station, Texas, to knock off Texas A&M in a tough environment as well. I can’t talk about impressive performances and not include the manly handling Georgia gave to Clemson 31-3. The biggest story from this game is not the dominating route of Clemson from Georgia, but has the Clemson dynasty ended, or maybe it was just a good run?

Ole Miss, MSU, and Memphis won on Saturday by a combined 172-7. Though their opponents came from the ranks of the FCS, all three teams looked focused and ready to make some noise. Memphis especially has to feel good; they were by far the best group of five teams from Saturday, taking a step in the right direction to maybe earn a CFP birth. Players whom I was so impressed with from week one play on the same team. QB Shedeur Sanders and all-around stud athlete Travis Hunter increased not only their draft stock but also made a case for early Heisman watch. Now one could argue that the four-point win came versus North Dakota State, who is arguably the best FCS team in the country.

Moving forward, this promises to be a fun season, especially with the expansion of the college football playoff bracket to twelve teams. Happy football. Everyone see you next week.
