Downed poles
A number of loud explosions around 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 26, on Maury Street near the Primary School, disrupted traffic. A number of utility poles snapped causing loss of power to the Holly Springs Primary School. The power outages extended over different areas of the city including Marshall Academy, Wal-mart and other businesses. The Bank of Holly Springs South Branch remained open using generators. A food service delivery truck got caught on a low power line causing the break of utility poles. Four or five loud blasts in a row were heard as the utility poles snapped in domino fashion. Traffic was blocked off at the Holly Springs school campuses while utility workers and emergency responders waited for the power lines to be de-energized. Marshall Academy dismissed at 11:30 a.m. and Holly Springs Schools at 1 p.m.
