Marshall drops home opener against Greenville
Marshall Academy welcomed Greenville Christian Saints to town for a rematch of last season’s opener. The Patriots came into the contest with not only getting a victory on their minds but also getting revenge. The name of the story from this game was a tale of two halves. The Patriots started the game on the right foot, hitting the Saints in the face and carrying a 14-8 lead into half. In the second half, the injury bug started to attack Marshall, and it was the beginning of a dominant second half for the Saints. Greenville Christian outscored the Patriots 26-7 to close out the game, defeating Marshall 34-21. Carson Orman finished with 12 carries, 85 yards, and 2 Tds. Tyler Wright had 67 yards on 15 carries, and Devin Snow finished with 4 catches for 44 yards. Head Coach Ben Durham says his squad is closing the gap amongst the best in the state. “What a great atmosphere for a high school football game. We are closing the gap between us and the top teams in 3A. But we still have some work to do,” he said.
Patriots will travel to North Delta for their next game.
