Marshall Patriots look to take step forward

After a season of growing pains, the Patriots look to have a better year with players getting more experience. Coach Ben Durham, when asked about last season, only had one word to say: “rebuild.” Marshall ended their 2023 season in the first round of the MAIS on the road at Winona Christian, finishing 4-6.

The Patriots are returning 16 starters, including QB Carson Orman, ATH Devin Snow, and RB/LB Eli Gurley. The Patriots had a great offseason, making additions to the roster, such as Brennan Smith QB/LB FR, Ashton Curtis RB/SS So, KJ Luse WR Jr., and Noah Olguin DL/K So.

Marshall was in jamboree action last Friday at West Memphis Christian, and the results of the game had quite a few people talking. The Patriots defeated West Memphis Christian 38-0 in only 30 minutes of football.

Coach Ben Durham said after the game, “We definitely feel like we have a ton of talent, but we need to come together as a team. We have a pretty tough schedule, so hopefully it will help us come playoff time.”

The Patriots open the 2024 season Friday on the road at Roseville Christian Academy.
