A special place in my heart
Two years ago, I was contacted by a good friend, late one evening, who had heard that a newspaper in Holly Springs, Mississippi, was looking to hire a managing editor. I anxiously applied for the job. I have worked in the newspaper business all my life, and I was excited about this new opportunity. My prayers were answered, and I started the job the last week of April 18, 2022.
The first day I walked in the door, I met the best team an editor could ever need. Sue Watson, Barbara Taylor, Bonnie Gurly, and Pam Burleson. Over the next week, I met the rest of the team: Lazandra Wells, Faye Cook, Jeremy Richmond, Mary Clay Brooks, and Mary Minor. It has been an honor to work with such wonderful people whom I now call my friends. They are committed to providing the best news coverage and producing the product for all our subscribers and readers.
I have met many wonderful people and heard the most amazing stories, some of which have been published. I have visited several delightful churches and met some great people from Holly Springs to Byhalia. Taking photos for the local basketball and football games has been a joy.
Knowing the crew at South Center Printing has made days at the office so much better. Lincoln, Queen, Clifford, and Sandra will always bring a smile to your face and pick you up when you are feeling down.
I have enjoyed being a member of the Holly Springs Rotary Club and part of a club that supports the community.
Working with the Holly Springs School District’s Dress for Success program has been one of the best mentor programs I’ve been involved with and has given seniors hope, guidance, and direction. Dr. Irene Turnage, Rev. R.J. Wilson, Susie Brown, and many others have incredibly blessed me.
My experience has been one of the best in my life, and I will always cherish and hold many memories close to my heart.
I’m so thankful that God has surrounded me with such wonderful friends and let my path cross with many new people.
This will be the last column I will write in The South Reporter, and I hope you all have enjoyed this ride as much as I have. Marshall County is growing, and I hate to miss it. May God’s blessing be with you always.

People need people and friends need friends
And we all need love for a full life depends
Not on vast riches or great acclaim,
Not on success or on worldly fame,
But just in knowing that someone cares
And holds us close in their thoughts and prayers-
For only the knowledge that we're understood
Makes everyday living feel wonderfully good,
And we rob ourselves of life's greatest need
When we "lock up our hearts" and fail to heed
The outstretched hand reaching to find
A kindred spirit whose heart and mind
Are lonely and longing to somehow share
Our joys and sorrows and to make us aware
That life's completeness and richness depends
On the things we share with our loved ones and friends.
