When you are fortunate enough to watch a child rise from the cradle into young adulthood, you are blessed. Being from Holly Springs affords most that opportunity. From teaching and seeing those students have babies of their own and watching them grow to having younger friends and seeing their babies coming up to friends of your own with their babies and then grandbabies. It is beyond a gift that small town living gives us.
Charlie Johnson is one of those “babies.” She is the daughter of Holly and David Johnson. She started off a precious little blond haired blue eyed beauty, well mannered, well dressed and always smiling. She has continued on the track of being gorgeous and has grown into quite the baller. She plays for a competitive softball team, the Blue Angels, as well as for the Marshall Academy Lady Patriots. Believe it or not as tall as she is, she is a catcher for both teams.
Having a smudge of dirt or in this case, covered literally from blond ringlets to the tips of her cleats in dirt, does not slow this one down one iota.
The Blue Angels played in Gulf Shores, Ala., last week. The girls swept the tournament in the 16U division, cinching the Gulf Coast National Championship. There is no ‘I’ in team but Charlie sure does add amazing ability not only behind the plate, but at it, too, with the strength in her batting.
Charlie is a rising junior at Marshall Academy. She is one of the “babies” I am proud to call “like mine.” It is a privilege to watch them grow and heart warming to witness them being amazing in all aspects of life. Keep your eyes on this one, she is doing big things here in our community and on the road playing in dirt.
