Former Hawks / Lady Hawks join in charity game against Conquistadors

Former National Football League star KJ Wright and his charity group, “The Wright Way Foundation,” hosted an alumni game on Saturday, July 6, at Olive Branch High School.

The game not only raised money for charity, but it also gave bragging rights to the best basketball team in north Mississippi.

The first game between the Lady Hawks and Lady Conquistadors came down to the final minutes before a winner was decided.

The Lady Conquistadors won the first game 32-30. Normanique Johnson of Olive Branch was named Most Valuable Player for the first game for her stellar play.

In the second game, the Hawks fell behind before halftime, but in the second half, they took control, pulling up to win 67-55.

After his dominant performance, DaQuan Smith of Holly Springs was named Most Valuable Player of the men’s game.

“Both games were exciting and lived up to expectations,” Darrel Thomas of Holly Springs said. “The games were high energy, intense and competitive on both sides of the ball. Fans were excited about it all.”

Thomas said it continues the pride and legacy of the schools.

“It teaches them to love their school and always be thankful for the community. and to remember where they come from and know that we are more – we are family that supports one another forever,” Thomas said.

Thomas said next year’s event will be even bigger and better.

“The fans can look forward to seeing a bigger event, more schools participating, more sponsorships, and more fun of good old basketball,” Thomas said.
