Lottie Mae Mullins Payne

Mrs. Lottie Mae Mullins Payne was born to the late Sam Henry Mullins Sr. and Annie Mason Mullins on March 3, 1930. There was a total of 11 siblings. She confessed her belief in the Lord at an early age.

She married the most handsome Fred "Bright" Payne and in this union one child was born - Bertha Mae Payne Gipson (d. 2024).

Lottie attended school in Benton County, Miss., and later enrolled at Memphis State University. Lottie worked as a Head Start Teacher and was known as a hairdresser in the community offering `Press `n Go' styles.

She was a dedicated member of New Hope CME after marrying into the Payne Family. Lottie served on the Usher Board and baked many cakes and pies for church functions.

Lottie loved her "stories," Nintendo, crossword puzzles, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. She also loved her large gardens and many flower beds and plants throughout her property.

Lottie was the last survivor of all her siblings and dedicated most of her adult years as caregiver for two of her siblings: Eugene "Fat" Mullins and Sam Henry Mullins Jr. Her husband, Fred, opened his heart and allowed them to live in a home on the property so Lottie could care for them.

Lottie was a loving, dedicated wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend. She was also a Mother to many in the community including her three grandchildren: Santee, Kelvin and Natasha.

They could depend on her for her straightforwardness, sound advice, genuine love and support. Lottie taught all to put the Lord first, stand up for themselves and others, and to always do what was right no matter how hard things would be.

Her stern teachings and love will be greatly missed but will carry on in the lives and hearts of all she taught and loved.

Lottie was preceded in death by her loving husband (Fred); daughter and only child (Bertha); great-granddaughter, San'Le and 11 siblings. She is survived by her three grandchildren: Santee Gipson (MinJin) of Virginia Beach, Kelvin Gipson of Holly Springs and Natasha Gipson of Virginia Beach; five greatgrandchildren: Santee Jr., Santia, Michayla, Anaya, Jaslyn and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
